The recently-completed Modernism Week was a huge success, according to newly released attendance numbers.
By the numbers: The 11-day festival in February counted 105,000 attendees at more than 350 events — a record.
- Attendees came from all 50 U.S. states and 25 other countries across the globe, including Australia and Germany.
- In addition, more than 15,000 people visited the Modernism Show at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Why it matters: Modernism Week representatives said the festival generated an estimated $55 million for local hotels, retail establishments, and restaurants.
What they’re saying: “Once again, Modernism Week continued to help brand the entire Coachella Valley as a mecca for design, preservation, modernism and architecture, Our diverse programming this year focused on many aspects of modernism but also allowed us to also highlight its predecessor, Spanish Colonial Revival design, in a series of talks and tours.” — William Kopelk, Modernism Week board chair
