A nationwide shuttering of movie theaters has been blamed on a host of issues: shorter box office windows, the rise of streaming services, and the poor performances of any movie not centering on a superhero. 

The exhibition, held every two years since 2017, is best known for massive sculptures scattered throughout the valley, including Palm Springs.

In 1968, David Christopher was a college student with a dream of meeting the bawdy, groundbreaking actress. As he watched the latest CVRep performance recently, memories came flooding back.

If all goes as planned, the mural should debut next year, along with signage explaining what’s depicted on the wall.

Arts commissioners are focusing on existing city artwork, hoping to not only give new life to the pieces but also place them in locations to both avoid direct exposure to the elements and provide greater public access.

Students from the Futures in Leading Media (FILM) academic pathway get real-world practical training. They put it to use on Tuesday.

A city sponsorship of $10,000 is required for the mural, with most of the money going to supplies for the artist. Funds will come from a budget for grants and sponsorships.
