Airport development, a historic church designation and federal housing funds are among the items shaping Palm Springs’ city government schedule this week, as several advisory bodies convene alongside the City Council’s regular meeting.

The week opens with infrastructure and sustainability topics, as airport officials brief a finance committee on a major capital expansion program and sustainability commissioners continue work on energy policy. The City Council meets Wednesday, with four public hearings on the agenda and a stand-alone discussion of the city’s mayoral position.

Airport Commission Budget & Finance Committee (Monday)

The committee meets at 9 a.m. to review the full airport operating budget for fiscal year 2026-27. Staff will also brief members on a $27.2 million expansion program that includes a new rental car center, auxiliary Federal Inspection Station and satellite terminal, with a completion target of Dec. 31, 2027.

The committee will also review proposed fees for electric vehicle chargers at the airport — rates of $0.49 to $0.69 per kilowatt-hour, plus a $0.99 session fee on top of existing parking charges.

Architectural Review Committee (Monday)

The committee meets at 5:30 p.m. to consider two development applications. TJ Property Holdings seeks approval for a nearly 20,000-square-foot medical office building for American Reproductive Centers at 1199 North Indian Canyon Drive. PSLUX, LLC seeks approval to build a duplex on a half-acre lot at 301 West Via Escuela, part of ongoing infill housing activity in the city.

Sustainability Commission (Tuesday)

The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. and takes up two ongoing policy items. Members will continue discussions on an energy-efficient upgrade ordinance and a greenhouse gas request for proposals, with the latter likely preceding a contract award at City Council. A University of California, Riverside researcher is also scheduled to present on desert climate resilience. The commission will also begin planning for a city-organized Extreme Heat Summit set for Sept. 18.

City Council (Wednesday)

The council meets in regular session at 5:30 p.m. with four public hearings scheduled. Members will vote on a Community Development Block Grant action plan allocating $337,285 in federal housing funds and revised Owner-Occupied Home Rehabilitation Program guidelines.

The council will also vote on covenant agreements with two hotel operators — Terra Palm Springs at 888 North Indian Canyon Drive and The Cactai Palm Springs.

A public hearing on Class 1 Landmark designation for the First Church of Christ Scientist is also on the agenda. Separately, the council has placed a stand-alone item on the mayoral position under Business & Legislative with no staff report attached.

In closed session before the regular meeting, the council will continue discussions about acquiring a portion of the Town and Country Center in Downtown Palm Springs.
