Robbery involving gunfire reported at Palm Springs jewelry store; police seek suspects

Thieves allegedly tried to rob a store in this stretch of the 190 block of South Palm Canyon Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Two suspects are on the loose this evening following a reported robbery at a downtown Palm Springs jewelry store where shots were fired.

Witnesses reported two men entered the shop, located on the 190 block of South Palm Canyon, armed with hammers, apparently attempting to rob the store Tuesday afternoon. An employee of the store reportedly fired a gun during the incident and the suspects fled on foot.

In a statement, Palm Springs police said they responded to a reported robbery in progress shortly after 3 p.m. but were unable to locate the suspects. It is not known whether they got away with any merchandise. Despite the gunfire, there were no reports of injuries.
