Police arrest three suspects following fatal shooting Friday in Downtown Palm Springs

Three men could face murder charges following a fatal shooting at a downtown Palm Springs parking structure Friday night.
The incident, which police say stemmed from an attempted robbery, resulted in the death of one victim. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the man on Saturday as 31-year-old Adam Ortega of Desert Hot Springs.

A 20-year-old Palm Springs man, and two brothers from Cathedral City, both 23, were arrested within six hours of the shooting. All three suspects were booked into jail on charges of murder and attempted robbery, with one facing an additional charge of assault with a firearm.
According to a spokesperson from the Palm Springs Police Department, officers received a call at approximately 10:26 p.m. Friday from a local hospital reporting a gunshot victim. The victim’s friends had transported him to the hospital after the incident. He passed away at 12:35 a.m.
Police quickly responded to the 200 block of South Indian Canyon Drive, where they located and secured the crime scene. Through their initial investigation, they identified a possible suspect.
Police conducted surveillance at a related address and observed the suspect leaving with two unidentified males in a vehicle. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the suspect attempted to flee on foot.
A police K9 unit was deployed and successfully apprehended the suspect. The two other suspects, later identified as the brothers, were also detained at the scene.

Police did not say whether the incident took place inside a parking garage that has proven troublesome in the past, but that appears to be the case. The issues with the garage, located at 275 South Indian Canyon Dr., were addressed in this recent article in The Post.
The incident marks the fourth apparent homicide inside city limits this city this year. On June 30, two people were killed near Interstate 10 in an apparent murder-suicide. On March 24 a man was fatally stabbed in the 500 block of Tiki Drive in a reported domestic dispute. In that incident, a 22-year-old man was later arrested.
