Pedestrian struck by vehicle along Ramon Road Friday evening dies at scene

Prior to Friday’s fatality, the last know pedestrian death involving a vehicle in the city is believed to have also been along Ramon Road.

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on a busy city street Friday evening died at the scene, according to Palm Springs Police.

The Riverside County Coroner identified the victim as Alvaro Vasquez, 61, of Palm Springs. Police said a vehicle traveling westbound on Ramon Road near Calle Amigos (roughly two blocks west of Sunrise Way) struck Vasquez at approximately 8:30 p.m. He is believed to have immediately succumbed to injuries suffered in the incident.

The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, police said, it does not appear that drugs or alcohol are contributing factors. If you witnessed the incident, police ask that you contact the Traffic Division at 760-323-8125. Anonymous information can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 760-347-7867.

Prior to Friday’s fatality, the last know pedestrian death involving a vehicle in the city is believed to have also been along Ramon Road. On July 29, witness reported hearing sounds of a collision and seeing a small, dark-colored, two-door car leave the area of Ramon Road and El Placer. Police have not made an arrest in that case.

Similar incidents also occurred on May 27 and May 22 this year.
