Palm Springs Unified School District extends superintendent’s contract to 2027

The Palm Springs Unified School District (PSUSD) Board of Education extended Superintendent Dr. Tony Signoret’s contract through June 30, 2027 during its regular meeting Tuesday evening.
Signoret, who was appointed Interim superintendent in July 2023 and named to the permanent position Jan. 1, 2023, has spent the majority of his 34-year career in education with PSUSD.

Board of Education President Madonna Gerrell expressed strong support for the extension, citing Signoret’s leadership qualities and dedication to student success.
“Throughout his tenure in the district, Dr. Signoret has exhibited strong leadership, commitment and dedication and is focused on doing everything possible to ensure the success of each and every one of our students,” Gerrell said. “Our Board is extremely confident in his abilities, talents, and wisdom, and know that he is the right person to continue to lead us on the positive path we are on.”
Signoret’s career with PSUSD began as a bilingual teacher at Agua Caliente Elementary. He has since served in various administrative roles, including assistant principal and principal at both elementary and middle school levels.
In 2011, he became PSUSD’s Director of Certificated Human Resources. After a brief stint as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at Desert Sands Unified School District, Signoret returned to PSUSD in 2017 as the District’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
Signoret’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Whittier College, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Chapman University, and a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne.
Raised in Mexico City, Signoret is fully bilingual in Spanish, a skill that enhances his ability to connect with the district’s diverse student population and their families.
Signoret expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to continue his work with the district.
“I am extremely proud and humbled that our board has shown their confidence in me by extending my contract and providing the opportunity to continue in this role in the district that is truly my extended family,” Signoret said.
He emphasized his commitment to ongoing improvements and collaboration within the district, saying, “I am anxious to continue the work we are doing and look forward to us making even more strides in collaboration with our outstanding and resolute team of administrators, teachers and support staff led by a Board of Education extremely committed to doing what is best for students.”
