Police tried to pull over a Toyota Camry near Murray Canyon Drive and South Toledo Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, but the driver sped away and led officers into a high-speed pursuit.

In July, a vehicle driven by the man rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Sunrise Way and East Palm Canyon Drive, killing its driver and injuring a child.

Jurors in the first trial deliberated over seven days and indicated they were deadlocked on March 8. A new jury was sworn in on Sept. 26.

After over two months of hospitalization, the suspect was released Sunday afternoon from medical care and surrendered at the police department.

Two injured people were found at the scene and taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The damaged building has historical significance.

Two Palm Springs officers were present in the early morning hours of April 23, 2021 when a bounty hunter, Fabian Hector Herrera, shot and killed 33-year-old David Spann in the condominium he lived in off East Villa Escuela.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. July 3 on Highway 111 north of Gateway Drive in Palm Springs, according to authorities.

Prosecutors rested their case Monday in the trial of a Cathedral City man accused of killing four people in Palm Springs in 2019.
