Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is bracing for a bustling Thanksgiving week, with more than 34,000 departing passengers expected to navigate through its terminals. The airport has released crucial travel tips and announced enhancements to ensure a seamless holiday journey for all.

Peak travel times are anticipated on Tuesday, Wednesday, and the Sunday following Thanksgiving, with daily averages of around 6,500 passengers. PSP urges travelers to arrive early — two hours ahead for those with checked luggage and 90 minutes for those with carry-ons. The busiest airport hours are projected to be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with security wait times potentially reaching up to 30 minutes.

In response to the increased passenger volume, PSP and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have introduced a seventh screening lane at the security checkpoint. This addition is expected to significantly boost passenger throughput during peak periods.

Parking is another critical aspect of holiday travel, and PSP advises that spaces may fill up quickly. The main terminal parking is priced at $20 per day, while the overflow lot on Kirk Douglas Way offers a slightly lower rate of $18 per day (credit card only). The overflow lot opened on Nov. 22, offering shuttle service until Dec. 3. For real-time parking updates and maps, travelers can visit flyPSP.com.

As part of its concessions refresh initiative, PSP is introducing new dining options such as Cactus to Clouds Bar & Kitchen, Coachella Valley Coffee, Las Casuelas Terraza, and Nine Cities Craft. However, passengers should anticipate longer wait times or full capacity at restaurants during peak hours. Grab-and-go options remain readily available throughout the airport for those in a hurry.

The airport’s retail offerings have also expanded, featuring local products in new stores located in both the Sonny Bono Concourse and Agua Caliente Concourse. These include Hey Joshua, InMotion, Las Palmas Oasis, and Uptown Essentials.

For a hassle-free trip, PSP recommends staying informed by checking the airport’s website for the latest updates on parking and security wait times. Utilizing airline apps for online check-in can save time for those traveling light. Additionally, TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” tool and adherence to the 3-1-1 Rule for liquids in carry-on bags are essential steps for smart packing.
