Officials set turf closure schedule for a dozen city parks
Rotating maintenance closures will affect fields and grass areas at parks across the city from September through December to allow reseeding and irrigation work.
The Palm Springs Department of Parks & Recreation has announced its 2026 field maintenance schedule, under which turf areas at 12 city parks will be temporarily closed on a rotating basis between September and December.
During each closure, affected turf will be reseeded and irrigated to allow new grass to establish, according to the department.

The closures will begin at Demuth Park on Sept. 20 and continue on a staggered schedule through the fall, with the last closure beginning at Victoria Park on Nov. 3.
The schedule is as follows:
- Demuth Park will close Sept. 20 and reopen Nov. 3.
- Frances Stevens Park will close Sept. 21 and reopen Nov. 4.
- Sunrise Park will close Sept. 21 and reopen Oct. 29.
- Palm Springs Stadium will close Sept. 22 and reopen Oct. 30.
- Downtown Park will close Sept. 28 and reopen Oct. 30.
- Wellness Park will close Oct. 1 and reopen Nov. 6.
- Desert Highland Park will close Oct. 5 and reopen Nov. 9.
- David H. Ready Dog Park behind City Hall faces the longest closure — from Oct. 5 through Dec. 23.
- Baristo Park will close Oct. 12 and reopen Nov. 13.
- Ruth Hardy Park will close Oct. 12 and reopen Nov. 20.
- Cerritos Field will close Oct. 19 and reopen Nov. 30.
- Victoria Park will close Nov. 3 and reopen Dec. 8.
The closures apply only to field and turf areas. Playgrounds, trails and other public facilities at the parks will remain open unless otherwise noted, according to the department.
The department has asked residents and park visitors to observe posted closure signs and avoid entering fenced or restricted turf areas during the maintenance periods.
