2021 Palm Springs holiday banner art program names finalists

Hundreds of Palm Springs area students from Kindergarten to 12th grade have submitted original drawings hoping to be among those chosen to have their artwork become one of the newly created holiday banners that line Palm Canyon Drive during the winter holiday season.

Of those who submitted artwork, Main Street Palm Springs President Joy Brown Meredith announced the finalists on November 20. They are:

The schools submitting entries were: Palm Springs High School, Mount San Jacinto High School, Desert Hot Springs High School, Cathedral City High School, Nellie Coffman Middle School, Bobby Duke Middle School, Raymond Cree Middle School, Katherine Finchy School, Cielo Vista Charter School, Desert Chapel School, Kings School, Vista Del Monte School and Bella Vista School.

About 100 banners, created by the students are displayed each holiday season. More than 50 new and original designs are added to the collection each year.

This year’s hand painted banners feature “Winter Holidays…Palm Springs Style” with special emphasis on Palm Springs landmarks.

An awards ceremony, with special guests Mayor Christy Holstege and the city council, will be held at Frances Stevens Park in conjunction with the annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday December 3 at 4 PM. Prizes and certificates will be awarded.
