The Historic Site Preservation Board will decide whether to recommend historic status for one of the city’s golf course communities, a move that would extend preservation protections over a large residential area. The board will also weigh a construction request tied to a designated historic property.

Later in the week, outgoing Police Chief Andy Mills will be honored at a retirement ceremony marking the end of his 49-year law enforcement career.
Here’s a look at the meetings and other events of note scheduled in the city this week:
Historic Site Preservation Board
Tuesday, 5:30 p.m., Large Conference Room, City Hall
The board will hold a public hearing on an application from the Seven Lakes Homeowners Association seeking historic district designation for the Seven Lakes Golf and Country Club. The district would cover the area bordered by Palm Canyon Wash, Seven Lakes Drive, South Gene Autry Trail and Highway 111. If approved, the board will recommend the City Council designate the site a historic district.
Board members will also consider a request from applicant representative Anthony Stark for a Certificate of Appropriateness to allow new additions at 608 South Indian Trail, a Class 1 historic site. Staff recommends approval with conditions.
Police Chief Retirement Ceremony
Thursday, 4 p.m., Palm Springs Convention Center
A retirement ceremony will honor outgoing Police Chief Andy Mills, who is stepping down after a 49-year career in law enforcement, including the last five years leading the Palm Springs Police Department. Mills and his wife, Cathy Mills, will both be recognized at the event.
Public Arts Commission
Thursday, 5:30 p.m., Large Conference Room, City Hall
The Public Arts Commission is scheduled to meet, but an agenda had not been released as of this writing.
