Police say tip from public helped lead to arrest of suspect in fatal hit-and-run from July 2022

A 28-year-old male suspected was booked into the Larson Justice Center in Indio Thursday where he was being held on $75,000 bail.

The Palm Springs Police Department is crediting the public after making an arrest Thursday of the suspect in a fatal hit and run from July of last year.

Looking back: On July 29, 2022, PSPD responded to a fatal collision between a pedestrian and an unidentified vehicle on East Ramon Road and El Placer.

  • Investigators were able to recover parts at the collision site, and video surveillance footage provided the suspect vehicle description as a dark-colored sedan.

Behind the scenes: Eventually, police said a community tip helped them crack the case. The suspect vehicle was found at a home in Cathedral City and the suspect was arrested on Thursday after authorities obtained an arrest warrant.

  • The 28-year-old male was booked into the Larson Justice Center in Indio where he was being held on $75,000 bail.

  • Records show he is expected to be arraigned on Monday and faces a felony charge of of hit-and-run resulting in death

What they’re saying: “Despite initially having only vehicle parts left at the scene of the crash, [investigators’] efforts, combined with the support of the community, enabled the resolution of this case,” PSPD said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
