Palm Springs panels to consider condo development, Escena subdivision plans and new recreation rules this week
Parks and Recreation commissioners will vote on swim center air quality rules as planning commissioners weigh a 16-unit condo project near Amado Road and Sunrise Way.
Condominium development, a large subdivision plan, airport improvements and new recreation policies are on the agenda this week for three Palm Springs advisory bodies.
The Parks and Recreation Commission opens the week Monday with new rules for facility rentals, pickleball courts and swim center operations. On Tuesday, the Planning Commission will review three housing proposals, including tentative tract maps for 94 future home lots in the Escena development. The Airport Commission will hold a special meeting Wednesday to discuss capital projects, airport finances and a new taxicab queuing system.

Planning commissioners will hear a request for a 16-unit condominium complex near the northwest corner of Amado Road and North Sunrise Way. George Yousef filed the request on behalf of GMS of the Desert Inc.
The same meeting includes a request to extend the deadline on an already approved 15-unit development at 211 North Sunrise Way. A separate application from EMP2 LLC, doing business as SunCal, asks the commission to approve two tentative tract maps in the Escena development, along with changes to the area’s planned development district.
At the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting Monday evening, members will elect a new chair and vice chair for the year and hear a staff presentation on the department’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The commission will also vote on new guidelines for facility rentals, pickleball courts and air quality procedures at the Palm Springs Swim Center.
At Wednesday’s special Airport Commission meeting, commissioners will choose a chair and vice chair and receive updates on the airport’s capital improvement program, fourth-quarter finances, noise issues and marketing. Staff will also present a new electronic taxi-dispatch system intended to organize the taxi queue and reduce congestion at the terminal.

Parks and Recreation Commission (Monday at 5:30 p.m.)
The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room at City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Members will elect new leadership and hear a year-in-review presentation on the 2025-26 budget. Staff will also present an overview of the 2026-27 operating budget, capital projects and Measure J spending.
Commissioners will vote on adopting facility rental guidelines, a swim center air quality policy and pickleball court rules, and will discuss forming ad hoc committees for the new fiscal year.
Planning Commission (Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.)
The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Commissioners will consider a development permit and tentative tract map for the 16-unit condominium project at Amado Road and Sunrise Way, along with a recommendation to the City Council on a related general plan amendment.
A second item asks commissioners to approve a two-year extension for the 15-unit development at 211 North Sunrise Way, requested by owner Shaul Mezrahi. In a third item, commissioners will consider two tentative tract maps for 75 and 19 lots in the Escena development, submitted by EMP2 LLC, along with an amendment to Planned Development District 231.
Airport Commission (Wednesday at 4 p.m.)
The commission will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. in the Airport Conference Room at Palm Springs International Airport, 3400 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Members will nominate a chair and vice chair and receive an update on airport construction and capital improvement projects.
Projects covered in the agenda packet include replacement of the Sonny Bono Concourse escalators, rideshare-area shade structures, repairs to stormwater outfalls near Hangar 18, renovations to airport restrooms and the multiyear outbound baggage-handling system project. Staff will also discuss a new electronic dispatch and virtual queuing system for taxicabs.
Additional presentations will cover the airport’s financial results for the quarter ending June 30, noise issues and marketing. The commission will also receive passenger activity reports, information about upcoming bids and proposals, and memoranda on general aviation landing fees and the adopted 2026-27 airport budget.
