Nov. 18 Daily Briefing: Grand marshals, Tram contest winners, nighttime art event is back, and more

In today’s Daily Briefing, we tell you who will lead the way when the annual holiday parade lights up the city, who won this year’s snow guessing contest, and introduce you to Shawn, a feline in need of a forever home.

Welcome to Tuesday, everyone, where, unlike Mark, we hope you paid attention to a little blurb we had recently that told of a closure to North Indian Canyon Drive this week. If, like Mark, you headed out to the freeway yesterday only to be turned around at Sunrise Way, you’ll want to remember that the road is closed as part of an ongoing widening and bridge replacement project. Officials hope to reopen the road by 6 p.m. Thursday (or earlier). To recap: Don’t be like Mark, and don’t try to take North Indian Canyon for a few days.

AND FINALLY …

๐Ÿพ Each week, The Post partners with a local animal shelter to feature one or more of the many animal companions ready for a new home in our community.

Today, we invite you to meet this lovable senior named Shawn. Although this Domestic Medium hair is around nine-years-old, he is fairly new to the shelter. Staff at the shelter say he’s a very friendly guy who likes to give  gentle headbutts to say hello.

  • Staff also said he loves to play and snuggle

Why it matters: The shelter is overcapacity, with more than 240 cats in its care. To help, it lowered cat adoption fees to just $25, which includes spay and neuter surgery, microchipping, and updated vaccinations.

If youโ€™re interested: You can visit the shelter at 4575 E. Mesquite Ave. Hours are 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on all days except for Mondays (open for intake only) and Thursdays (1 p.m. until 7 p.m.). You can always call the shelter at (760) 416-5718.

Make sure to check out all the other pets at the shelterย here.
