Multiple events scheduled in city for Saturday’s Transgender Day of Remembrance

Events at Palm Springs City Hall and a popular Downtown venue are planned to recognize Transgender Day of Remembrance on Saturday.

At City Hall, located at 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, The Transgender Health and Wellness Center will hold an event at 5 PM. Keynote speakers will be Precious Brady-Davis and Joey Soloway.

Brady-Davis is an award-winning diversity advocate, communications professional, and public speaker. She currently serves as the associate regional communications director at the Sierra Club. Soloway is an artist, activist and filmmaker. They created the Emmy– and Golden Globe–winning series Transparent and cult feminist I Love Dick, both from Amazon Studios.

Another event is being organized by Queer Works at Oscar’s Palm Springs, 125 East Tahquitz Canyon Way.

The Coachella Valley Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held at that popular venue from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. The evening program will include light refreshments, a welcome from Palm Springs Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Middleton, a keynote from Miss Nevada USA Kataluna Enriquez, and the traditional reading of the names. The event is open to anyone and everyone, regardless of gender identity. Allies are especially welcome to attend.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on November 20 as a day to memorialize those who have been murdered because of transphobia and hate and draw attention to the continued violence endured by transgender and nonbinary individuals.
