The Desert Ensemble Theater (DET) Palm Springs has announced its 13th season lineup, featuring two world premieres by local playwrights. The theater, now in its third year at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, continues its tradition of showcasing new and recent works that provoke thought and discussion about contemporary life.
Artistic Director Jerome Elliott Moskowitz revealed the four-play roster, which includes “Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties” by Jen Silverman, “The Lifespan of a Fact” by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell & Gordon Farrell, “Ellie” by Bruce Bonafede, and “Sherlock Holmes Confidential” by Tony Padilla. The latter two are world premieres, continuing a trend set last season. Since 2020, DET has offered five world premieres.
The theater recently received 43 Desert Theatre League Award nominations for its 2022–23 season, with 21 nominations for its world premiere productions of “Do Not Remove Label” and “Kafka’s Joke.” The upcoming season promises to be equally groundbreaking, with a diverse range of plays that explore themes of love, truth, grief, and identity.
“Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties” will kick off the season in November, followed by “The Lifespan of a Fact” in January 2024. The world premiere of “Ellie” is scheduled for March 2024, and the season will conclude with the world premiere of “Sherlock Holmes Confidential” in April 2024.
