City comes alive with Pride as crowds flock to downtown event

Thousands of celebrants took to the streets of downtown Palm Springs and surrounding hotels, restaurants and businesses as the 2021 version of Greater Palm Springs Pride got into full swing Saturday.

The party continues Sunday with the return of an in-person parade. The parade starts at 10 AM on North Palm Canyon Drive at the intersection of East Tachevah Drive, and will travel south, ending at the entrance to the Pride Festival at Amado Road, according to event organizers. The Parade usually lasts two hours and is a free event.

This year’s parade will mark the 35th anniversary of the event, with the theme “You Are Included,” and will be a live return to the event after it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.

The festival takes place in outdoor venues and includes three days of dancing in the streets on Arenas Road between Indian Canyon and Calle Encilia, on Palm Canyon Drive between Amado and Tahquitz, and in the new city park at the intersection of Museum Way and Belardo Road. There will be open-air beverage lounges, food vendors, a festival marketplace, a T-Mobile Youth Zone, and a Children’s Garden.
