Symphony recruiting youth, including beginning strings players, as next event looms

The Coachella Valley Symphony is looking for a few good youth to be part of the organization as the 2022 season kicks off.

Officials with the symphony said Tuesday anyone ages 8 through 18, regardless of musical ability, can participate in the Buddy Rogers Beginning Strings (BRBS) classes. The program is open to youth who want to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. All instruments, sheet music, and methods books are provided.

They symphony is also seeking school-age children to participate in The Buddy Rogers Youth Symphony (BRYS). Students who participate are included in an annual combined concert with the adult members of the Coachella Valley Symphony.

โ€œ[This] is a music program unlike any other across the Coachella Valley,โ€ said Lisa Lindley, CEO of the symphony. โ€œHaving our young players go through our Buddy Rogers Youth Symphony program and then perform with the adult orchestra has an incredibly positive impact on their performance abilities. BRYS gives them improved problem solving, interpersonal skills and improved concentration with their schoolwork.โ€

Both the youth symphony and strings program are taught by highly trained, state-credentialed, professional musicians on Monday evenings at Hope Lutheran Church in Palm Desert.

Community members looking forward to the next performance of the symphony need not wait much longer. The next performance at the Palm Springs Art Museumโ€™s Annenberg Theater is Sunday, Jan. 23, at 3 p.m.

โ€œOur Maestro, John Mario, returns for his seventh season with the Coachella Valley Symphony,โ€ Lindley said. โ€œHis conducting skills bring every score to life while elevating the talents of every member of the orchestra. He truly delights audiences by providing a glimpse into the life and experience of each composer.โ€
