Two local theaters unveil ambitious 2025-2026 seasons

Dezart Performs opens its new Palm Springs venue with a West Side Story concert while CVRep presents four productions including Dear Evan Hansen.

Dezart Performs will debut its new home, the Dezart Playhouse, in the former First Church of Christ, Scientist building in Palm Springs when its new season opens later this year.

Two prominent theater companies have announced their upcoming seasons, with Dezart Performs marking the opening of its new venue and Coachella Valley Repertory presenting a lineup of award-winning productions.

Dezart Performs will debut its new home, the Dezart Playhouse at 605 South Riverside Drive in Palm Springs, with โ€œA Gala Celebration: West Side Story in Concertโ€ featuring a live orchestra and vocal ensemble. The production opens Nov. 13, with additional performances Nov. 14 and 15.

โ€œThis moment is deeply personal and profoundly joyful,โ€ said Michael Shaw, artistic director of Dezart Performs. โ€œOpening the doors to our new home with West Side Story โ€” a piece so full of passion, longing, and hopeโ€”feels like a beautiful full-circle moment.โ€

The Dezart Playhouse, formerly the First Church of Christ, Scientist, is an architectural landmark designed in 1957 by Robson Chambers and Albert Frey. Tickets for the special gala opening event range from $187 to $535, including fees, and go on sale to the public Aug. 15.

Following the gala celebration, Dezart Performs will present three additional productions. โ€œEureka Dayโ€ by Jonathan Spector, the 2025 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Play, runs Jan. 14-25, 2026. The West Coast premiere of โ€œDestroying Davidโ€ by Jason Odell Williams follows Feb. 25-March 8, 2026, with โ€œLove! Valour! Compassion!โ€ by Terrence McNally closing the season April 8-19, 2026.

Meanwhile, Coachella Valley Repertory has announced its own four-show season at 68510 East Palm Canyon Dr. in Cathedral City. The season begins with the regional premiere of โ€œDear Evan Hansen,โ€ the six-time Tony Award winner, running Dec. 3-21.

โ€œThe generosity and graciousness of our patrons, donors, and media inspire us to plan seasons that are entertaining, intriguing, and produced with the highest standards of professionalism and creativity,โ€ said Adam Karsten, CVRepโ€™s executive artistic director.

CVRepโ€™s season continues with โ€œOne Man, Two Guvnorsโ€ from Jan. 14-Feb. 1, 2026, followed by โ€œGuys and Dollsโ€ Feb. 25-March 15, 2026, and concluding with โ€œErnest Shackleton Loves Meโ€ April 22-May 10, 2026.

CVRep season subscriptions range from $250-$370, with single tickets priced at $60-$110. Tickets go on sale Aug. 1. For Dezart Performs, individual tickets for its regular season productions range from $57-$78 and go on sale Sept. 12.

Both theaters offer subscription packages and maintain box offices for ticket purchases. Dezart Performs operates as Palm Springsโ€™ only Equity theater, while CVRep holds Small Professional Theatre status with Actorโ€™s Equity as the only theater in the Coachella Valley with that designation.
