Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is preparing for a 13-day peak travel period from today (Thursday) through Dec. 2, with more than 75,000 departing passengers expected during that time.

Airport officials anticipate more than 46,500 travelers will depart during Thanksgiving week. The busiest days are projected to be the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after, with approximately 6,300 average departing passengers on those days.

Airport staff recommends passengers arrive two hours before departure if checking bags and 90 minutes before departure for those traveling with carry-on luggage only. Peak security times are expected from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., when up to 1,200 passengers per hour may pass through the checkpoint.

TSA’s full screening capacity will be operational throughout the season. Travelers can check security wait times at flyPSP.com before arriving at the airport.

Holiday demand may cause parking to fill quickly. Main terminal lots operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with an overflow lot on Kirk Douglas Way available at $18 per day. The lot accepts credit cards only, and shuttle service will run throughout the Thanksgiving travel period. Live parking availability can be checked at flyPSP.com.

Be aware that new parking rates take effect Nov. 24. Hourly parking will increase to $9 from $8, and the daily maximum will rise to $26 from $20. The Palm Springs City Council approved the rate changes in September. The updated rates support new parking features at the airport, including smart access systems, license-plate recognition and expanded mobile payment options.

The airport now features 13 new shops and restaurants across the terminal. Restaurants may experience high traffic during peak hours, but grab-and-go options remain available throughout the concourses.

Travelers can also reach the airport via rideshare apps, taxis and SunLine buses. The airport encourages passengers to check in early using airline apps, review TSA’s liquid rules before arrival and stay informed about parking and security updates at flyPSP.com.
